for now, let's call her Petunia...

Meet the purple house. I hope you note the pink accents on the roof along with the turquoise trim. We haven't come up with a name for her yet, but I'm sure if we lived in her we would find a great one. She's sassy. That, I can already tell. But aren't all old houses? And this one has been around since 1893.

Looking at the outside, the house is equal parts a jumbled mess and a seemingly delicate abode. Its dainty colors don’t quite match the mess of a front yard and random rusty metal pieces that are lying around. Kaltz of course hates this, but I love it. It gives “Petunia” a little more personality. Sometimes we are a mess on the outside, but what truly matters is what we encompass inside our hearts, or even within our floorboards.

She's got walls painted with vivacious colors of deep purple, lilac, dark green and the brightest golden-yellow. One room is a little questionable and has striped fabric with the color scheme of brown, tan, poopy green, and red covering the walls and ceiling (sounds a bit like the colors in my house at home). Some would describe it as having “the-inside-of-a-circus-tent-feel.” To be honest its pretty rank, but we decided that could be the living room. We were thinking a floral couch of blues and pinks would be ideal.

The house has all hardwood floors and some of the rooms even have the hardwoods painted which I really love. There is a great wrap around porch that is really wide and comes with a forest green porch swing. This was recently rebuilt... the porch that is, not the swing. I envision it having tons of rocking chairs too. It has five bedrooms total, but we may have two people share and as said before, make the striped one the living room. Kristen and I are probably going to have to make the sacrifice and share. You can call us the sacrificial lambs. The advantage to the room we'd get is that we would have our own secluded sun porch/study. The hall is also abnormally large, so I feel like that could possibly be our common area. And we need a great common area for how much we all love to be together. I am looking forward to next year more then anything else because I love these four girls with my entirety.

Now I know this was in the credentials when looking at houses: must have a snake!!!! Well perfect. This one has a snake and thankfully for Lilly’s bank account, it’s free. We’ve decided to call it, “he-who-must-not-be-named.” It's not a deadly one, but it does reside in the house in a massive tank built in the hall, for forever. On top of that tank sits two smaller ones with fish. It's the first thing you see when you walk through the front door. It's weird. Believe me. But a little cool all the same. And it adds a nice night light in case we need to find our way to the bathroom or in case someone is coming home late from studying and we don't want to waste energy by leaving the light on. Thankfully, Anderson has already informed us that she speaks parseltongue.

She may be so unrealistic, but something inside of me has hopes that maybe she is who I will be able to call home as I continue my adventures here in Athens Georgia. She will be cozy for me on rainy Tuesdays, because it always rains on Tuesday in Athens. She will be bright on sunny days with her endless windows and cheery canary-yellow kitchen. She will be without question freezing in the winter because we aren’t paying asinine utility bills. But all the same, she will love and protect us as a good friend and house would do while providing enough room for all of us to be together, always.
