yesterday we spent a significant amount of time in an awesome bookshop on the canals called artazart. it has an amazing compilation of all sorts of design, photography, painting and artsy kind of books and makes you feel interested in a little bit of everything. one of my favorites was a small coffee table type, called early color, made up of images shot by saul leiter during the 1950’s. he was a painter and photographer, who went on to be a fashion photographer in new york city. I love his perspective-something I’ve been trying to discover lately in some of my own images- and the way he layers a design or inanimate objects contrasted with people, giving an amazing composition. I also love his use of seeing people through reflections and harsh weather and the way he captures daily life in the city.
