and the world spins madly on...

The idea of spinning has always enthralled me. That passion had a bit of an influence on the name of my blog, dizzy from all this spinning, as did a man close to my heart, Dave Matthews. For those are words from his song, “So Damn Lucky.” I can’t explain it but I thrive on the lack of control in surrendering myself to the mere world through spinning. You see that is what we and the world have in common: the ability to spin. Us and the world, we spin for different reasons. The world spins to keep things constant. We spin many times, for no real reason at all.

We sometimes refer to our lives as spinning out of control. And a lot of times it is. The world has a fast pace and it takes a lot for us to keep up. But I find comfort in knowing that the world is always spinning and yet somehow we can stand still. Stephen Speaks must have known what I mean when he said, as the world spins around her, she laughs, in his song, “Out of my League.” I think the world is trying to tell us something. It’s our constant so we don’t need to be. Take a second, slow down, and if you feel it inside your heart, spin. Get so dizzy from spinning you fall on the ground queasy and giggly. Thankfully the world will still be the same when we stand back up and our spinning stops.
