"Suno is a New York based fashion brand founded in 2008 by Max Osterweis in collaboration with designer Erin Beatty. The collection was launched in Spring 2009 after post-election violence threatened to damage the economy and industry in Kenya, a long time second home to Osterweis. Using vintage Kenyan textiles that Osterweis had been collecting for years, they created their first small collection, produced predominantly in Kenya. Since, SUNO has evolved its business to include producction in Kenya, India, Peru and its home base of New York.”--from their website
I regrettably hadn’t heard much about SUNO until I started looking them up over the past few weeks anticipating market. the company is the perfect quirky mix of everything I love-- fashion, africa, prints, and lots of looser silhouettes. who would have ever imagined there would be a dream company for the girl who was weird enough to major in fashion merchandising and african studies? it’s a brand that pulls on my heart as well as thrills these eyes of mine, and I’m literally obsessed. I pretty much want everything they designed for the resort 13 collection and love the way they styled the shoot to showcase the collection. I’m really excited to watch this company grow.
